Syrian hamsters
The Syrian hamster, or Golden hamster, is the most common type of hamster kept as pets simply because they are easier for children to handle. As you may have guessed, they come from Syria. They are the largest type of hamster, which makes them easy to hold. However, like most hamsters, the Syrian hamster can fit in the palm of a hand. Their original color is golden, but now they come in a variety of colors. Along with a variety of fur colors, Syrian hamsters come in a variety of fur lengths. The long-haired Syrian hamster is often called the teddy bear hamster because they look a little like teddy bears. Syrian hamsters are extremely territorial, so they cannot live with others of their kind (except when breeding). The Syrian hamster is vulnerable (almost endangered) in the wild.
